Sport Mouth Guards

Mouth guards in Lake Oswego, OR.Sports mouth guards provide the user with a way to protect their mouth from harmful accidents that can occur. Due to this, mouth guards are provided and often required by many sports that children play. However, the provided mouth guards may not be enough to protect the child’s teeth in case of an accident while on the field or court. By visiting a licensed dentist, like Dr. Chris Kooning here at Kooning Family Dentistry, to receive a mouth guard, you are fitting the mouth guard specifically to your mouth instead of using a one size fits all approach. This can suction around the teeth and gums, while protecting the outside of the teeth and slipping easily into the mouth. When the mouth guard does not fit comfortably and firmly in the mouth; this is when a lot of accidents can happen.

To reduce the chances of accidents, it is recommended that parents bring their children in to visit us and find out how to get their child a form fitting mouth guard that is sports approved, rather than using the generic ones that are handed out or found in sports stores. These are the ones that might not provide the firm fit your child needs in order to keep their teeth safe.

How Sports Mouth Guards are Made

Sports mouth guards are made from a highly protective rubber material that provides the patient with a way to seal against the teeth and gums. When the patient comes into our office, they will need to have a mold taken of their teeth. This is what the guard is going to be made from. Dimensions, measurements and specific molds are then used to create a mouth guard that does not move inside the mouth. It provides a firm fit. This process does not hurt and will not take long to complete.

What you get when the mouth guard is complete, is a durable mouth guard that can hold up to long-term use. It may take a little while to get the finished product, but the mouth guard that is going to protect your child’s teeth is a great mouth guard that is worth waiting for.

Benefits to Using Sports Mouth Guards

There are numerous benefits that come from using mouth guards while playing different sports, especially those that require contact. They help to:
•  Keep your teeth where they belong
•  Ensure that you do not damage them on outside elements
•  Make sure you do not bite your tongue or lip while playing sports
•  Reduce the chances of insurance payments
•  Provide additional safety and liability coverage when playing outside of the home

Whatever the reason is for obtaining a sports mouth guard, remember that the best fit within your child’s mouth is what can ultimately save them from losing any of their teeth. By visiting us here at Kooning Family Dentistry and having a mouth guard specifically made for their mouth, you can keep their teeth safely where they belong.

We provide children and adults with form-fitting sports mouth guards that can ensure that their teeth stay intact, protected and comfortable while playing any type of sport. Contact us today at (503) 673-9097 to find out more.
